A superb family house in Pornic
Just as in Toy Story, the children's Playmobil has invaded the entire
house, a house created by the architects of Mericom Archi. Clearly they strove to recreate the familial atmosphere, the elegant and bright
aesthetics of that half traditional, half contemporary world.
In this architect's house, sobriety does not exclude contrasts: multicoloured figures on a whitewashed wall, a knob on the professional mixer tap, black frames on red bricks.
Creating a new house within walls that already have soul, the challenge for Mérisim's team was clearly successful for this happy family. Located in the heart of a hamlet, in a small village on the outskirts of Pornic, they worked hard to craft this house inline with the wishes of their clients. In this stunning family home with its white walls, its stepped roofs, with red brick encircling its black openings, there is happiness Happiness.
This shows the love for creating a traditional house whose elegant
appearance is layered with the contemporary design that the team of
the Nantes architectural agency has mastered.
Let’s go in, but first recognise as we enter, the art of the craftsmen who
showed great respect for the ancient terrain of the Pays de Retz; admire the accomplished alignment of the bricks, their design giving rhythm, the hand-trowelled rendering, subtly irregular, thus giving life to the as they catch the sunlight.
This is how to build a traditional house in Pays de Retz, in this age.
Although the owners have opted for a somewhat sober yet modern
layout, they have retained an unrelenting loyalty to the past: the patina
of an old chest of drawers, a bouquet of hydrangea so deliciously retro.
In the chimney corner, busts of angels watch over the room, crystal
bottles sparkle and, carelessly thrown on an antique armchair, the
feminine hat which is still dreamsing of the Roaring Twenties.
In the kitchen, the first thing to catches your eye is a cookbook by Yotam Ottolengi, sitting on its lectern between the tap and the salt shaker. One caresses the zinc skin covering the worktop, and the remastered dishwasher door that matches the waxed concrete sink. Crowning the spring-loaded mixer tap of this house's professional cook, the artist's studio-style glass partition separates the kitchen from the living room; don't miss the old-fashioned knob.
In the living room as well as in the home cinema, the bookcases and
shelves are aligned with the stone, as if dug into the walls by a careful
craftsman.
At the far end of the mansion, is it really just a holiday home, the
children's quarters are dance on a wooden floor crafted from natural
pine. Their three bedrooms contrast with each other. The boy's room,
with its metal bunk reached by ladder, squats alongside the Playmobil
army, this is its HQ; the elder girl's room, with its fuchsia cupboards and bed linen, has a slogan: "Go CB", no doubing that she’s a fervent
basketball fan; the youngist girl's room, in its purple and turquoise, and
with its mezzanine bed, tucked is under the roof, her refuge close to the stars.
The children's communal bathroom plays host to those tooth-brushing
sessions, with its in the communal sink and so reminiscent of schools
back East.
The parents' suite has reserved the first floor, that so wise as its away
from the lively and oft noisy little ones. From their landing converted
into an office, the parents always keep an eye on the raucus play around the pool. Every space is thought through to give happy times in this architect-crafted family home in the Pays de Retz.
One of the other guiding ideas in the design of this family home was the courtyard with its triangular frame, the white pillars decorated in a
fashion that evokes memories of a trip to the south. From seaside house to sunny wanderings, under the cyclopean awning, the grenadine is served, the barbecue is quietly glowing, and the table for so many siblings is dressed with a beautiful rusty decor. The space with its marine sail stretched between the beams of the frame is dreaming, the beams dream of being foremast.
The summer evenings stretch late into the night, and the world is
rediscovered in the restful coolness.
The waxed concrete floor has a black soap patina, superb.
Be careful, children, don't slip climbing out of the pool! Ah, they are
already asleep.
On the other side of the oh so blue swimming pool the guest house
adjoins the garage.
Hush! Therein lies a superb classic car, in metallic anthracite livery.
The owners have deep roots in the local area, their grandparents are
close by and they all grew up in the Pays de Retz, each one of them
having skated on the wooden benches of the neighbouring school, in Le Clion-sur-Mer, near Pornic...
Simply, a house that has the permanence of happiness, to last, always.
